A conference will be held on Micro Renewable Energy Opportunities in Claremorris on Wednesday 23rd February 2011. The objective of the conference is to consider the strengths and opportunities of micro renewable energy for businesses in the West of Ireland.

Speakers will include Dr. Jonathan Derham from the Environmental Protection Agency on Waste to Resources – Emerging Opportunities; and Mr. Juoko Parviainen from Joensuu Development Company, Finland on Gasification Technological Developments

This conference is being run as part of an EU Northern Periphery programme MicrE (Micro Energy to Rural Enterprise). WESTBIC, Mayo County Development Board and the West Regional Authority are currently participating in this project, which is examining the potential of converting waste to energy on a small scale in rural environments. The MicrE project is providing support services to rural SME’s and local organisations across the Northern Periphery region of Europe to develop and promote innovative small scale renewable energy solutions, as well as energy generation from by-products and waste, which can be adapted for rural SME’s. The focus of the project is to identify solutions using new and existing technologies which have not been tried in a rural environment before, especially those which generate energy from by-products.

For further information on the conference or the MicrE project please contact: Seamus McCormack, Area Manager, WESTBIC, Tel (086) 257 4978 or Neil Sheridan, Mayo County Council, Tel: (094) 9024444 or see the website:
