As part of the Local Food Programme in Co. Roscommon, managed by WESTBIC, and to celebrate the wide variety of foreign cultures now represented in the region, a novel inter-cultural food exchange event will take place in Roscommon town, where everybody will have the opportunity to participate and experience a variety of the traditional dishes and foods from a wide range of international regions represented in our community.

Roscommon has witnessed the influx of foreign nationals over the years, including Brazilian, Polish, Lithuanian, Czechs, Chinese, Latvian, Pakistani, Indian, African, Chechen and Russian nationals, and it is envisaged that a large number of these communities will participate in the event, where food samples from these international regions will be available for the public to taste. Recipes for various ethnic dishes will also be available.

This international culinary exchange will take place in Gleeson’s Townhouse in Roscommon Town on Thursday 19th July and is open to the public from 8pm. All are welcome to attend, where there will be a wide range of traditional food dishes and samples, from international regions and also from Ireland, for everyone to taste and enjoy, as well as having the opportunity to find out more about these international regions and their traditional foods.

There will also be a display of this international cuisine available at Roscommon’s weekly Farmers Market on Friday 20th July, where visitors to the market will have a further opportunity to experience traditional international cuisine in Roscommon town. The Farmers Market takes place on a weekly basis beside Market Square in Roscommon town and provides a wide range of fresh produce direct to the consumer and locally-produced where possible. A variety of quality foodstuffs available from the market will be used in the local dishes on display at the inter-cultural food event.

The Local Food Programme is designed and funded by Mid South Roscommon LEADER Company and aims to promote an appreciation of local food and to develop the food sector in the region.
