Development Plan for Glencolmcille Parish now available on-line

By James Donlon, August 22, 2005

Following the recent launch of the Five Year Development Plan for Glencolmcille Parish, the document is now available to download on-line at the links below. Both English and Gaeilge versions are available.

The plan, which was prepared by WESTBIC on behalf of Lár Chomhairle Paróiste Ghleann Cholm Cille through close consultation with the local community, outlines a strategy for the development of the parish over a five year period. The document outlines a demographic and socio-economic profile of Glencolmcille and details a resource audit of the parish. An analysis of the area’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats is also documented. The plan then includes projects and measurable actions which relate to the revival of the Irish language, employment, infrastructure, education, tourism and the environment.

The plan was launched earlier in the summer by Mary Coughlan, Minister for the Dept of Agriculture & Food at the Glencolmcille Hotel where a large crowd attended.

Formed originally in 1995, Lár Chomhairle Paróiste Ghleann Cholm Cille is a locally elected voluntary group of fifteen members who recently opened their offices in Malinmore, Glencolmcille through the support of Údarás na Gaeltachta, Roinn na Gaeltachta and MFG. Development Worker, Yvonne Curran employed in late 2004 with funding secured under Peace 2 has been working closely with the Lár Comhairle in furthering their objectives.

Support for the development of the plan came from Údarás na Gaeltachta, Meitheall Forbartha na Gaeltachta and Donegal County Council.
