INTERNATIONALISATION

An important aspect for innovative enterprise operating in a relatively small and open economy is towards the internationalisation of SMEs and the development of strategic support, taking a broadly based European perspective as members of the EU. Facilitating access to markets is a crucial part of this support as well as providing access to knowledge capital and R&D opportunities through collaborative approaches with institutes at an international level. Integration and linkages with EU BICs and other international organisations and R&D Institutes that support enterprise play a key role in nurturing this support for internationalisation.

Through WESTBIC’s membership of EBN – the European Business Innovation Centre Network, as well as our strong relationships with a range of organisations at international level, WESTBIC is ideally positioned to build on this expertise and experience for the benefit of innovative SMEs. To this end WESTBIC pursues and participates in a number of programmes with international partners that can positively impact on the identification of internationalisation opportunities for indigenous SMEs, whilst also assisting in developing best practice in supporting these companies throughout the internationalisation process. Important links are provided through a range of programmes and opportunities identified across the EU as well as in the Middle and Far Eastern economies.
